Mint 400
Dubbed “The Great American Desert Race,” the Mint 400 started in 1967 as a way to promote The Mint Hotel, in Las Vegas. Race teams and off-roaders everywhere soon learned of the race thanks to heavy media coverage, and it quickly grew into one of the most famous desert races in the world. Over the years, the Mint 400 has drawn famous competitors from all walks of life, including racers Al Unser, Rick Mears and Mickey Thompson; film stars Steve McQueen and Patrick Dempsey; and comedian Jay Leno. After a nearly 20-year hiatus, the race resumed in 2008 and continues to grow more popular with each passing year.
